I used to have this blasting out in my car nearly 30 years ago whilste driving through the night and it still sounds amazing!

The bassist is John McKenzie - pretty far ahead for 1979 I think. (When did slapping start?)

Checkout the solo at about 5:20. Oh and Steve Hillage on lead is pretty darn good too.

I wish I could find Searchig For The Spark from the same tour. That has a great bass solo on the Live Herald album.

In the '60s with Larry Graham?
Stanley Clarke's "Lopsy Lu" is from 1974.
The Brothers Johnson's debut album was about 1976...same year approx. for Rainey slapping that part on Steely Dan's "Peg".
