first of all, i must say that i never listened a solo like this one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuDYi...eature=related

the choice of notes is just amazing! it is not just speed here, it is good taste with awesome technique with an amazing choice of notes. this is what slap should be all about!

went to wikipedia to know more about this bassist and i already listened to him in Thriller album, just didn't catch my attention! from once in a while i read here in TB about his slapping but never crossed my mind we were talking about THIS guy.

can someone tell me what to look for from this bassist? what are his best albums and which album is he performing in the youtube clip i posted? i need it!

Michael Jackson - Off the Wall, nice bass work on a few of those tracks as I remember, some of 'The Brothers Johnson' stuff is wicked too, that's a nice slap workout by Louis that you posted ; )

Look up stuff by The Brothers Johnson. They were at their peak during the late seventies to early eighties.

IMO, he's the one that put Music Man basses on the map.

I replied to an ad for a Bass Player in a chart band in 1980 and the Bandleader asked me two questions:

1. Do you "slap and pull"?.

When I said Yes, he came back with:

2. "Can you play the solo in Stomp?"

IMO. there's nothing Marcus Miller has ever played that Louis Johnson didn't already do.

Louis Johnson is one of the most talented bass players out there... Look at just about anything by Qunicy in the 80s or 90s and Loius was doing eh bass work...
