Louis Johnson: where is he now?

Sign in to disble this ad
So does anyone know what Louis Johnson is up to nowadays? It seems like he just vanished after the mid-80s. I couldn't find any answers and figured maybe one of you TBers might know.

Also, check out this interview from last year, it's almost 50 minutes long: http://soulinterviews.com/index.php?...testInterviews

Louis can be found on any Quincy Jones project. There were 2 or 3 QJ projects in the 90's.

It looks like Mr. Johnson is getting paid in Europe. It is so cool to see that he still has a Stingray from that era.

Here's a pic of Louis and myself at The Mint in L.A. He was there for my nephew's band's show. He's my nephew's instructor and he took a liking to the band and sat in with them. Very fun night and, as you can see, I was as giddy as a little girl!

Louis Johnson stated that he was using a Fender Precision when he started doing sessions. I always thought that he was using a Precision on "Look Out for #1" the Brothers Johnson's first CD. In the past, he said he used a MusicMan on all of the Brothers Johnson CDs.

That interview was great! I really loved the part about Louis and Paul McCartney. Louis' slapped version of "Silly Love Songs" was too cool!

On the Bro-J's 2nd album, Right On Time...Louis is shown holding an Alembic. IMO, the tunes from that recording (e.g. "Strawberry Letter 23") sound like an Alembic. IIRC, I think I saw him playing such back in the day.
The 3rd album, Blam...a Sting Ray was pictured/drawn on the cover.

Cool P-bass on Look Out For #1.

He switched between fenders, music mans and alembics. But if you listen to his live sound the music man is the bset...the alembic had too much "chink chink" rather than a punch or defined note.

That project by Passage came out on LP and Cassette back in the late 70's or early 80's. I have the cassette but I can't find it. The CD is definitely worth getting, which I'll be doing myself. Louis's wife sang most of the lead vocals and Alex Weir was on that project as well.

Louis is killing an Alembic on Earl Klugh's version of "Keep Your Eye on the Sparrow"!!!!!!!

I met Louis once, he has great stories. He didn't get a dime of the publishing for Billie Jean, and that bassline is the song!
I always wished Michael Jackson would come to his senses and get Louis, John Robinson, Greg Philinganes and record another record like 'Off The Wall'.
