Not stepping out, not over the top - just killin' on a fat groove with some other great players.

Every time I come back to Mr. Miller, I am inspired as a musician and as a bass player.

I haven't seen this in quite a while - thanks for the refresh! Awesome stuff. Aside from Marcus' playing, it's a great reminder of how beautiful Sanborn's voice is on alto. Nice little guitar solo too.

i love the thumb/palm muting sound he gets. that's the thing i enjoy most in his playing. everything else he does is amazing too, but that technique and feel, in that context, floors me every time. i wish there were better shots of his right hand...

Definitely! I look to him as my biggest inspiration on both groove-inspired slapping and for anything played via palm-mute. I could listen to the the first four bars of his version of 'Red Baron' forever and be happy.

I remember that clip. Nice!

If you haven't heard the Bill Wither's Live disc that starts with this tune, GET IT. It's the nastiest groove I think I've ever heard. The funny thing is, Bill counts it off a bit fast, and the band is like 'uh uh, this is where it's going to be'. It's kind of funny!

Yeah Marcus is not just your typical "bass hero". He always has had great taste and great tone in the studio and he can really lay it down. Who was on drums on that track? Steve Gadd was on percussion.

Check out Marcus's work on the 'Cannon Re-Loaded' CD for some more great palm-mute work from him.

It's not a 'Marcus' CD, but rather a tribute CD to Cannonball Adderly, with Marcus on bass. It's VERY good.
