Hi, Does anyone know what effect(s) Mario uses on the song found at this link? Thanks if you can help. I'm guessing its the Boss Octaver 2 or the Chorus.

great song and band. It sounds like a thick chorus to me. i could see why it could be an octaver, but it just sounds like a thick chorus.

I play in a band with Keith Wilder's (founder of Heatwave) daughters. I'll ask him tonight. After having to learn some of Heatwave's album cuts for our sets, I realize that he has a jazz background, and he was a beast!!!!!!

Thanks fellas. That bass line always stuck with me from my late teenage years. I subconsciously liked the song at the time. I'd love to know what gave him the sound.

Couple months ago, Bass Player did a little 1-page thing on Mantese...he has a website &, I assume, e-mail.
Go to the source, I imagine he would be thrilled to talk about his bass days.

Mantese always impressed me as a tasteful player...those Heatwave ballads are top-notch ("Mind Blowing Decisions", "All You Do Is Dial", "Happy Togetherness", etc).

These 2 are in our set, along with "Send Out for Sunshine" and "Beat Your Booty".

check out boogie nights video. He's using a Orange amp head and cab set up. I'm not sure if he used the same setup for the other song, but that could be a big part of the sound as well

Whoa, wait wait wait, were you in Virginia Beach last summer when they played here? Those girls were killin' and fine too!

I used to play that back in the day and I used a chorus (heavy setting) to achieve that sound.

BINGO!!! That's what he used, with a Jazz bass. BTW, I was in Europe, so I didn't make the Va. Beach gig. They are VERY talented, and yes, beautiful. Those are my babies. They decided that they didn't want to do a backing band thing. They wanted the band to be part of the group, which is rare and cool. Their dad agreed, and then they told him that it HAD to include "Woodchuck and Tommy (drummer), or it won't work." I thought that was nice.

Yeah it was a cool gig. I was mad at first because the "Ladies Of Skyy' didn't have a band and used backing tracks which sounded horrible. When Heatwave came on, it was a whole different ballgame! Very entertaining and they did songs from other artists as well. You have a nice gig there!!

"Star Of A Story" is another...George Benson has a nice cover on his Give Me The Night album as well (Abe Laboriel on bass?).
