Always liked his style and tone. Anyone share the opinion? Seems to me when I saw Jo Jo Gunne years ago he was playing a Tele bass through Acoustic's.

Yup, me too. Mark was one of those guys who always caught my ear. I stole a lot of ideas and got a lot of inspiration from his work with Spirit. Pretty sure he was only on the first (and best) Jo Jo Gunne record. And of course he also played with Firefall, and with Heart during their 80's power-ballad phase.

I actually got to see Mark only once in person, on a Spirit re-union tour in the late 80's. He was playing a stripped, early 60's Precision. All the photos I've seen of him from the Spirit daze were with a similar bass.

I don't know anything about him. Did he play on "Twelve Dreams of Doctor Sardonicus"? I love the bass tones and parts on that album, e.g., "Mr Skin".

Mark currently lives in Austin Texas and is actively playing, lots of the time with Ian MacLagen (ex-faces keyboard). A few years ago he was using what appeared to be a standard US P. Still looks like a SoCal surfer and a very nice fellow.

Mark was one of my first bass heroes. I got to do a promo tour with him when he was in Firefall and we had some great conversations about playing, equipment, etc. Loved his playing with Heart too. That seemed to be the last good version of that group IMO.
