Mark Bedford - Madness

I used to listen to the ska band Madness a lot before I started bass.

Now recently I have been listening very much to them and damn, Mark Bedford has some excellent bass lines.

The bass always seems to be very noticable in the mix and it really drives many of their songs forward. One step beyond, Baggy Trousers, Night Boat to Cairo, House of fun etc. etc.

Really tight and fun bass playing there!

In the original mix of their recent single "Sorry" his bass is also nice and punchy and driving... I really enjoy his playing and his stage presence.

Brilliant bassist, and very young when madness started having their hits. He really put a lot into those songs.

One of the 'tribute' bands I dep in is a Madness one.... and I have to say that his basslines are great fun to play and they really keep you on your toes!

Personal fave must be 'House Of Fun'..... great stuff!

My band do Baggy Trousers and Night Boat To Cairo, great basslines which demand 100% concentration, lose the pocket and it's all over, especially when your drummer is not great shakes. Quite hard when you're trying to "dance" (those quote marks are definitely ironic) in the required Nutty Boys manner.
