Crikey! Good on ya.

On the subject of Mark, I think he's a decent bassist but I can't help thinking that their current genre of songs slightly limit him showing his ability.

The old Buddah/ Cheshire Cat era gave birth to some of those bass riffs that 'must be learned', I remember carousel was one of the first things I learned on bass

It all boils down to your music preference, if you don't like Blink 182 then I dobut you'll really like Mark.

Mark Hoppus fills his role in Blink 182 reasonably well. All he has to do is stay solid with Travis and play the roots for Tom DeLonge to do his thing over, however I don't think this makes him a great bassist. Singing while playing eighth note grooves is not all that hard, why don't you try playing and singing Schism by Tool, that took me forever to master. Anyway bottom line is, Mark Hoppus does his job but that doesn';t mean he's great at it

To fight a little for the "bad guys" (I don't like Blink either), when Mark makes a kid pick up the bass and really inspires him (my guess is he looks cool doing it... I don't know what cool is anymore... who am I kidding, I never have) that's cool. Will they turn out to be equally as bland as Mark... perhaps... but consider this scenario...

Kid sees Blink 182... "WOW, Mark was wikkid sweet, he was jumping around and his bass is so awesome looking, I wanna play the bass, it's so easy! Man, I sure am dumb, weeeee this is fun." Kid buys the Mark Hoppus sig bass (which I hear sounds great!), takes it home.

In a couple weeks, he finds out he can play all of his heros basslines. Now here's where he makes the important decision:

- Wow, the bass is easier than I though, I'm going to start a Blink182 tribute band/band that sounds just like Blink 182 and that's what I'm going to do until I get a real job or get famous making generic punk.

or

- Wow... Mark's basslines are pretty easy. I wonder if there is anything harder to play.

He's putting basses in kids hands, sure he isn't showing them what to do with them, but he's getting 'em started.
