Ummmmmm..... I watched some YOU TUBE video of Mark King maybe 20 years ago and was really surprised that he was doing, then, much of what Wooten does now!
Any comments?

Why? Is this a frightening potential discussion? Or will I get beat to death by Wooten enthusiasts?

Just like everyone else, Victor had influences, and nobody creates in a vacuum. Mark King is a great player who had an impact on a lot of other great players.

You can hear Stanley Clarke, Abe Laboriel, Marcus Miller, Jaco, Doug Rauch, and Stu Hamm in Vic's playing too.

THE ONLY WAY these types of discussions have ANY MERIT whatsoever is if you choose certain very specific parameters. And even then, its of doubtful utility. Most of these disscussions are jsut like schoolyard kids saying, " Johnny's better than Clive ", and then you line up with whichever is more your friend.

Which proves?

Yup. Nada.

Anyway, Vics chops are beyond touch. Mike is a super awesome bassist and stellar performer.

I like ME better, since its the only guy whose playing I can directly influence. simple logic, eh?

And I'll take a little Mark and a little Victor in my vitamin mix!

The thing is, Victor was doing 20 years ago(and more) what he is doing now. Vic has been with the Flecktones for 20 years and he was playing this way long before that. And these threads are pointless.

OK, sorry. I withdraw and hereby close this thread. As pointless it is I guess? I will enlighten myself and never again speak of bassists in this regard . I didn't realize that "comparisons" question/comments were off limits.

Somebody warned me early on about this. I should have listened

You could've had a nice discussion but you titled your thread King vs. Victor like music is some sort of sport or competition. Anyway, you learned something today so not all is lost.
