Just saw Opeth last night in NYC. I have to say . . . WOW . . . Martin Mendez is such a pro. What a solid and tasteful player. Talk about a bassist who keeps it all glued together. The more I see this guy live and the more I listen to Opeth, the more I'm impressed. He kind of hits me the same way that Edwin Colin of Porcupine Tree does; the RIGHT NOTE at the right time, like 'That's EXACTLY what should have been played there.'

And since the majority of music in Opeth's live show on this tour is mellow, I really got a chance to hear him.

I've become more and more a fan of players like Mendez since I outgrew the widdly-diddly stuff years ago. I was just in awe of the guy the whole night.

Yes. MM made it cool to play a Marcus Miller IMO lol. His playing on Damnation continually blows my mind.

One of the things I'm really enjoying about Heritage is that the style really allows a little more room for the bass. Can't wait to see them 10/4 in Austin.
