Good for Matt!!!!! He is a phenomenal bassist and I hope that this is a financially rewarding gig that will lead to others.

Of course, a dude like Matt Garrison isn't going to play for less than he can do on his own, but I'd be shocked if it was that high.
And if it were Bobby Brown doing the tour, I'd be shocked if he paid $500 a night. He strikes me as a guy who pays $200 a night | No Whitney is not paying 20K a week, there's only 2-3 gigs out there paying that much to a sideman and Whitney isn't one of them not now and probably not ever. Matt just got thru hitting with some big Italian? pop act so he may be doing the "fusion guy moving into pop gigs" thing a'la randy jackson

"how do you make a million dolars in Jazz?
......
start with 2 million!!"
I'm really psyched for Matt, and for the fact that Whitney seems back on track and hopefully getting some good folks around her.

He played on his CDs, and was a producer and songwriter too. Remember, not all pop gigs are equal. I think Marcus Miller's work with Luther Vandross was easily some of the best music he ever played.

I agree with the Marcus/Luther match, it's up there with the Joni/Jaco as best bassplayer/singer matches made in heaven.

The only thing that might be a drag is that, from what I've been reading, Whitney is still out of her mind, and her voice is shot. |

Marcus has done some gigging with Luther. Don't know about tours, but he's played shows with him before.

However, from the guys I know well enough (only a few) that are more 'unknown guys' who play on these megatour type gigs, it would shock people to know how little they get paid. Don't get me wrong, they get a good, living wage, but you could make more being a mid level accountant.
It's not how many 'think it is' out there at this higher level of playing. |

Marcus did a nice interview about this right after Luther Vandross passed away.

I'd guess it's a short term deal for him.
Bank as much as he can and then go back to his solo stuff.
Plus, it would be a blast playing some of those tunes. AND in front of a ton of people too!
You know her shows will be packed.
