Matthew Garrison's New Project

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been listening to the new recording Matt did with guitarist Alex Machacek and drummer Jeff Sipe and must say I really like it. This project was put together by a friend of mine, Souvik Dutta who owns Abstractlogix. He's friends with the three players but none of three had ever worked together before or had even really met. I was able to hang with the guys when they came down in April to Raleigh, NC to do this recording. They all met for the first time April 6, 2007 on a Friday and played an improv gig that night. It was a great show and a lot of fun chatting with them. Over the next 2 days they recorded the album. Alex took the tracks back with him and worked his magic on them. There is some great playing on this. Matt plays beautifully as does Alex and Sipe almost steals the show. These tunes were pretty much written on the spot so they're not long on melody but the musical conversation between these great players is incredible. If you like adventerous music buy this CD. I'm not sure when the official release date is but order it now.

Sounds good, Jeff Sipe is one of my absolute favourite fusion drummers!

Listened to the sample clips.
Wow. Of course, it's really high powered, driving, technique out the ying yang.

I dig

Wish Scott Kinsey actually played on it...
Or someone like Uri Caine.

Scott Kinsey is great at what he does but I believe his sound would have cheesed up this recording too much.

I'm currently waiting for that trio cd.
I had the other cd my alex machaceck(Sic) and did not like anything about it ( well , terry bozzio was and is great on it, but that's it for me.) Now I'm really curious as to the forthcoming trio disc!!!

Mine came in the mail yesterday......very free playing with no commercial value whatsoever.....I dig it! Sipe is one of my favorite drummer too, he seems to always find great projects including his solo albums.
Abstact Logix has been great in bringing very cool projects around that would not get much credence from the usual outlets. [i.e. Gary Willis] Hide your credit card if you go to their website, very dangerous place.

Fine, scratch Kinsey and at Uri Caine on a simple Rhodes.

Also, not sure if you've heard Kinsey play on Kurt Rosenwinkel's Enemies of Energy but he certainly can add synth without that 80's Velveeta.

my 2 pennies....I dig Scott Kinsey! His Kinesthetics album has some smokin' bass on it.

I like Scott as well, but just think his playing and sound would not have been a good fit for this group.
