Maybe *slightly* OT, but still -

OK, I'm watching Joe Bonamassa in Vienna on PBS, and a sideman is playing a stringed instrument sorta on his lap, bowing it, and fingering what look like some sort of keys on the side of the neck. There are four strings he is bowing, and I see pegs for what must be more strings on the neck/head (which vibrate sympathetically?).

What the heck is THIS?
