I have been grooving on McCartney since I bought the remastered Beatles mono cd's a few weeks ago. I went on to check out his work on Another Day. I really, really like the bass work on that song- a great mix of laying back and driving the changes. The man is a gift to us all. I hope I develop the maturity to not show off and rather serve the music as his bass playing does. |

I LOVE his tone- big, round, toneful, not harsh to the ear in the least. I must make it a point to see him live if the opportunity arises. I wonder what his bass sounds like live?
I think his bass playing is a reflection of his unparalleled compositional abilities- good composers tend to be awesome on their given instruments.
From listening to Sir Paul in the Beatles and his solo stuff, I am approaching my own playing from a less frenetic place. |

The man just knows how the bass is supposed to go in a given song. Some of my fave McCartney bass moments are SOMETHING, JUNIOR'S FARM, TAXMAN, COME TOGETHER, anything he did on SGT. PEPPER's, and many more.

When I tried to learn the basspart to that song it took me ages to work out all the notes

This is what he does.
I too thought his part on Something was, well something . I saw him speak about the song, and you could see that George impressed him when he showed him this song during the Abbey Road sessions. He put a stellar effort into this bass part.
I'm currently practicing playing and singing Lady Madonna. Easy enough parts to do these separately ( if you listen and practice enough), but very tricky to do both simultaneously and still get the dynamics, nuances and such played and sung.
Penny Lane is another bass part that knocks my socks off- simple enough, yet functions well and even better, sounds great. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
