Yeah.... you're not going to really get too many of these.
Like my avatar says, the bass player tends to be the mensch of the band.

From bands big to small, there seems to be a camaraderie among us bottom-dwellers.

Stu Hamm. Opened for him with a band - he treated us like dirt. Rocco Prestia, on the other hand, was *great*...

Hmmm, I can't say I've ever met any mean bass players but that is my perspective, some have seen me as a bit of a meaney, but at the gig I have a certain 'game face' that puts folks off. There is a commonality to bass players that makes us all a family of sorts. I have encountered some that were imtimidating, super serious or just having a bad run but mean, nah.

Lord, this was *years* ago... He was at the height of his solo thing at the time (1990?) and he and his crew more or less walked *through* us as we were setting up, wouldn't acknowledge our presence - just acted like "Rock Stars" - - Given that the venue was a 300 seat room in a very working class part of San Diego (The long-gone Bacchanal, for anyone who might remember it), he didn't really have too much to be cocky about.

I'd like to think that we kicked their a$$ that night - I know I played my butt off...

I remember that place! Went to some great (and some not-so-great) shows there.

Back on topic, I've met a couple of famous bass players who I thought were egotistical and rude. I won't mention their names. They were the exception, though. All the others were cool.

When I met Michael Anthony in 2000 at NAMM in Anaheim, CA. He was very put off, unless you wanted a autograph or had tits. He really did not want to socialize (outside of his contractual work) and was pretty alouf

Funny! Years ago I met Stu Hamm's brother in San Fransisco. He was a sarod player at the Ali Akbar Khan music school. He was so stuck-up and snooty that I've kind of disliked Stu by association ever since even though I never met him...

I used to go and see a guy called Harry Brus when I was a teenager. I idolized him and how funky he was. One night I got up the courage to ask him if he'd like a drink; "Yeah, a tripple bourbon". he says. That used up my whole nights money (nightclub prices). I never thought so highly of him after that.....That's mean, I think.

I read in an interview with Mike Inez that John Entwistle could be quite a prick. It was something like, Inez went up to Entwistle and said "You're awesome man." And Entwistle replied something along the lines of "Don't you think I ****in' know that?!" and walked haha

I've met quite a few and can't say nothing but good things about the bass players I've met. Usually just the nature of the breed.

Yeah the bassist bunch are pretty friendly... I suppose it's to make up for the attitude of the rest of the band/just the guitarist

Surprisingly enough Victor Wooten, we were at a show (Toad's Place) and me and my friend being the bass players that we are decided to meet him before he played, firstly my friend walked up and said "hey man your one of my biggest idols, I've been trying to learn your technique forever, good luck tonight" vic then gave him a dirty look and said, "thanks kid" and under his breath mumbled "god damn kids"............We were 21
