Ellefson is one of my favorite metal bassists. I really think he deserves a lot of credit. I loved the tone he got from the Modulus basses he played in the '90s. He's actually one of the few pick players I actually like. His best lines IMO are from Killing Is My Business, Peace Sells, So Far..., and Rust In Peace.

My Last Words, Holy Wars, Take No Prisoners, PEace Sells, Five Magics so many songs he had such power. Yes Mustaine did see that the bassist was just as important he let him shine back in the day. A brilliant bassist and even more of a challenge to play with the fingers.

David Ellefson is a major influence on my playing style and tone - perfect for metal, very aggressive, cutting, even, controlled. I play holy wars and tornado of souls as a warm up, they're really fun.
People say that he always played simple stuff, but its so more than that - he plays the perfect groove/ bassline for each song and drum beat tight as hell - notice he used down picks where ever possible to keep it even tighter.

I am shocked that Metallica didn't ask David to play for them when Jason left- that crab-like baffoon they have now is utterly awful IMO (his solos are embarrassing). I have a nasty feeling their new album will suck sooooooo bad...

+1! He's at the top of my list for influences, mainly because of his work on Killing is My Business... and Business is Good, Peace Sells, but Who's Buying?, and Rust in Peace. Those are the three best Megadeth albums to-date, IMO. The current album (United Abominations) is the best album since Rust in Peace, but it's lacking in the bass department on many songs.

I'm primarily a pickstyle player because of him!

I really admire Cliff Burton, Frank Bello, and Steve Harris, too, but Ellefson is still my favorite.
