this has so much groove...so much funk this track...

wonderfull tune from the best album IMO..

This is super funky...

i love this track with Marcus Miller..

there is no double thumbing, tapping..just great spot on bass playing....apart from Pino, i rack my brain to think of anyone who holds down a groove quite like Meshell....my lack of knowledge is showing here and i will get flamed im sure...

there are lots of female bassists who groove..... like Debra Killings, im in love with this woman... Gale a Dorsey..the amazing Divinity Roxx with Victor..Rhonda.. who is amazing..possibly better players tech wise but IMO but they cant quite groove like Shell..i know many can do groove but she got that thing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VeqnL9IO-0..

input on who can groove like Meshell...lots im sure.

oh im in love with this woman too..

I wouldn't call her the best, but she is awfully good. If you want a favorite bassist, you could do a whole lot whole lot worse!

There is no "best", just players who's playing "best" speaks to you. That said, I'm a huge fan of Meshell's grease and groove and it does speak to me.

One of the funkiest players on the planet... and "the funkiest" (not best) female player for sure.

she is great!!!

but its just too hard to choose a 'best' groove player...unless you choices are George Porter Jr. or Rocco Prestia

It's more than groove. It's style and attitude. And she has a truckload. Just killer.

Great composer, too! No two of her albums sound the same, and she keeps ebvolving and changing things up.

Am I the only one that just does not like Divinity Roxx playing? Not that she's bad but on a list of fantastic female bassists she doesn't seem to fit anywhere. I reacted to her the same way I reacted to some of the more recent Verdine White stuff "Wuh...?".

As others have said, the idea of "best" doesn't really hold any water for me. Having said that, Me'shell is at the top of my list of influences. Her name is always the first to come out of my mouth when people ask which bassists I love the most. More than anyone else I've heard, she embodies what I love most about bass. Her conviction on the instrument is unsurpassed, as far as I'm concerned. I'll add that, to me, Me'shell has an incredible amount of musical integrity. I always find that, whether I like what she's producing or not, there's an honesty in her approach to music. A unique artiste, to be sure.
