Tool
Typo-O-Negative

And not metal but you may like it

Stanley Clarke uses a tint of it, and Bootsy Collins too.

Not metal, but Death From Above 1979
the bass player plays exclusively with distortion.

A lot do, if you include grit or growl into that, this thread could go on for years...

I am not too sure if SC and BC are metal bassists

Anyways, John Campbell from Lamb of God on Sacrament and the upcoming album Wrath.
Mike D from Killswitch Engage used to have a killer OD tone, Troy Sanders from Mastodon, Peter Iwers from In Flames, Brent Riggs from Job For a Cowboy.

The list could go on forever, a lot of bands use it.

Tim Cummerford- RATM.
Scott Reeder- Kyuss
Nick Olivieri- Kyuss/Queens of the Stone Age
Billy Gould- Faith No More
Geddy Lee

to name a few. +10000 to Tool, though. Best distortion/overdrive/grit bass sound in rock. From both D'amour and Chancellor.

Tool < Liam Wilson from Dillinger Escape Plan. Check out "Fix Your Face."
On their first album the bassist from Norma Jean has a really great deep distorted tone.
The guy from Neurosis.
Dan Briggs of BTBAM uses an OD for the end of Alaska.

Yeah hence why I said they weren't metal

If you like Norma Jean at all, you should really listen to the entire Redeemer album. The bass tone is amazing. Super thick and growly.

TJ from War of Ages has a pretty awesome overdrive sound live, but it doesn't come through so much on the album. Jason Wisdom from Becoming the Archetype has a killer overdrive on their newest album, Dichotomy. And although I know that Underoath isn't really metal, Grant gets some amazing distortion sounds on their newest CD, Lost in the Sound of Separation.
