You guys know of any besides AC/DC, Isis, and At The Drive In? I play Rays and find them to be the best instrument of choice for me when Im playing with my bands. |

I do use mine for rock and metal. I don't really have much in the way of quality recordings, though... but I'm working on that.
As far as major bands are concerned... IIRC, Justin Chancellor used them more often in previous projects, but only on two tracks in Tool. Avenged Sevenfold's Johnny Christ uses both Stingrays and Sterlings, but I believe he is primarily using the Stingray on their self-titled album and on recent tours (He used his Stingrays for the most part when I saw A7X on tour recently).
If I think of more, I'll tack on a few more posts.

Not sure if you consider Chili Peppers to be "metal/hard rock" but he was definitely one of the guys to bring the Ray to the forefront. IIRC he is spankin' the cr*p out of one in the video for "Give It Away" and probably oodles of live clips as well.
Actually I've always wondered why more bassists in loud guitar bands didn't use StingRays. The way their sound cuts through and all. Much better than a P or J for heavy guitar driven rock, IMHO.

Tim Commerford used a Stingray on Rage Against the Machine, but has used a Jazz Bass since.

I think Atreyu is more of a metalcore band, and it dosen't matter cause their bassist sucks , but Marc McKnight uses them.
John Moyer USED to use one. I think Shavo Odadjian used one during the early days.
I think King ov Hell uses them, at least before his 6-string Peavey days. He might use them to this day.

Guess that kinda puts to rest the whole "StingRay can only do one sound" argument, don't it? | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
