So I had to go to Dreamforce this year being my company's Salesforce.com evangelist and I come to find out Metallica is playing (last night). I'm not the biggest Metallica fan in the world, but I really like some of their stuff, old and new. I gotta tell you I didn't really know much about Robert Trujillo, but I walked away with a newfound respect for the guy. He's a monster player, and a great showman. This guys was all over the stage non-stop with moves that would leave my knees begging for mercy. Didn't really care for his solo, but was the anchor of one of the tightest bands I've heard. Great sound; loud, but great.
For the record, he played about 7 or 8 different basses: (2) no-label jazz basses, Ibanez, ZON, Warwick (I believe his latest sig), Tobias, and maybe one more I forgot about.
Glad I got to catch them. Apparently this was their first and only corporate gig.

I'm a big Trujillo fan myself, the guy is an amazing rock bass player with monster chops and intense stage presence. He's had such an amazing career too - from Infectious grooves to Suicidal tendencies then to Ozzy and Metallica!! Like, come on!

This gig most certainly holds the record for "Most iPads held up during a Metallica concert". Robert had a slew of beautiful basses. I want his Tobias!

I wonder why they played? And how many they'll do?
Anyway, it's good to hear that they were in fine form, and playing the classics. I haven't seen them since the Black Album tour, but I've seen some very sloppy videos of recent shows.
