Metallica @ Dreamforce - Robert Trujillo

Sign in to disble this ad
So I had to go to Dreamforce this year being my company's Salesforce.com evangelist and I come to find out Metallica is playing (last night). I'm not the biggest Metallica fan in the world, but I really like some of their stuff, old and new. I gotta tell you I didn't really know much about Robert Trujillo, but I walked away with a newfound respect for the guy. He's a monster player, and a great showman. This guys was all over the stage non-stop with moves that would leave my knees begging for mercy. Didn't really care for his solo, but was the anchor of one of the tightest bands I've heard. Great sound; loud, but great.

For the record, he played about 7 or 8 different basses: (2) no-label jazz basses, Ibanez, ZON, Warwick (I believe his latest sig), Tobias, and maybe one more I forgot about.

Glad I got to catch them. Apparently this was their first and only corporate gig.

Very cool! I'm a big Trujillo fan myself, the guy is an amazing rock bass player with monster chops and intense stage presence. He's had such an amazing career too - from Infectious grooves to Suicidal tendencies then to Ozzy and Metallica!! Like, come on!

I went to the show as well, the band sounded great- I was happy that they opened a corporate gig with "creeping death"'and "for whom the bell tolls." This gig most certainly holds the record for "Most iPads held up during a Metallica concert". Robert had a slew of beautiful basses. I want his Tobias!

Unfortunately I never got to see Burton or Newsted live, so no point of reference.

Of course Cliff was awsome, R.I.P. I have always been a fan of Robert. Never seen Robert with Metallica though. Jason was a solid bass player but IMHO not at the same leval for me as the other two.

Trujillo IS great; no doubt. I just don`t think he`s a good fit for Metallica. It`s a shame to see such a great bassist go to waste Jason was not nearly as technically accomplished as Robert, but was a much better fit, IMO.

first and only corporate gig TO DATE.
I wonder why they played? And how many they'll do?

Anyway, it's good to hear that they were in fine form, and playing the classics. I haven't seen them since the Black Album tour, but I've seen some very sloppy videos of recent shows.
