Metallica in Slo-Mo...

Sign in to disble this ad
If you have not heard, Metallica is going to be on the Discovery channel show "Time Warp" next Wed. at 8pm. They shoot them playing with high speed cameras so you can see what really goes on. It should be interesting.

Here are a couple of vids of Robert Trujillo slapping that they put on the site.

Video 1

Video 2

Also a video of James soaking a mic. Nasty...

My girlfriend hates that show, haha. It is pretty dumb but kinda cool - obviously appeals to male tendencies

Metallica "rocking" in slow motion is the most boring thing I've ever sen.

I have it set to DVR tomorrow, but a very cool segment was when they taped Mike Mangini (Extreme, Steve Vai, James LaBrie's Mullmuzzler, Annihilator, Berklee Drum professor) and holder of World's Fastest Drummer records in Fastest Hands (bongo-type playing w/o sticks), Fastest Traditional Grip & Fastest Matched Grip, and Fastest Single Stroke Foot. His taping for "Time Warp" showing his traditional grip at full speed and recorded with a counter as well full-kit playing. I was absolutely astounded at how the physical aspects of the drums respond to playing, especially at someone of his level, and how a drummer uses the "bounce" of a snare head to lead into the next hit as well as just how much a cymbal can actually "deform" when hit (although unstated, I believe it was a thin cymbal that was hit/taped, and thus the more extreme movement of the metal... pun not intended. )

I've always said this show would be much better as thirty second spots in between commercials.
