According to an interview in the Feb. Guitar World, Eddie Van Halen kicked Michael Anthony out of the band, apparently because he was touring with Sammy Hagar as "The Other Half" and playing VH songs. Eddie says "Alex is the other half of Van Halen, they're just a cover band."
MA has been replaced by Wolfgang Van Halen, Eddie's 15-year old son, who has been playing bass all of three months. |

Diamond Dave's making a comeback?
Seriously, this band blew it's load a LONG time ago. I like Hagar but Dave was the shiznit and nothing by VF will ever come close to the first 5-6 albums IMHO.

If they can keep on ticking then why shouldnt 'ol Ed and the boys. Thats kinda whack too that MA is out there playing VH songs and making money with a different band, no one's mentioning that, NOT to mention that it could be a legal nightmare.

According to this article, Anthony left the band a few months ago (the article was published last month). The article also mentions that Eddie's kid played on stage with him in 2004, so I think the "3 months" thing is off a bit.

I think he just recently switched to bass for his dad. |

I've seen VH live, but the best "VH" show was Sammy and the Waboritas with Michael Anthony "dropping by" at the Joint at the Vegas Hard Rock Cafe. Killer, killer show. |

Maybe it's the drugs and booze, maybe it's the...well, I'm pretty sure it's the drugs and booze. But Eddie was on Howard Stern recently and he was almost incomprehensible. I have also heard of many drunken appearances at trade shows by Eddie. They've pretty much lost their minds and are mere shadows of their former selves, especially Eddie. At least the Stones can put together a coherent album and tour and not have people talking about how F'd up they are.

Van Halen hasn't been my thing since 1988 or so, but I still respect alot of the old recordings.
But what they're doing now, for anyone to be doing that, is just embarrassing. I remember EVH talking up how VH version 3with the other singer was gonna be the best. That lasted what, a month? Then they do a best of with DLR on 2 songs, which no one cared about, and got rid of him again, and then SH left, then came back, then left again, now they fire MA....
Blah. Van Halen is like the Jerry Springer show of rock and roll. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
