Michael Rhodes w/Bonamassa
this link is part 1 of 4 in a documentary series on joe bonamassa. anyhow, thought i'd share. i liked the way michael rhodes talked about being a bassist. an interesting perspective. it's about 28:30 in. enjoy!
THis is why Michael Rhodes is my favorite bassist. Here's what he says:
Playing bass, I mean, it's not a glory position. Not really. But it's…psychologically, one has to be suited to be okay with that. I like it. I call it "being in the engine room." It's all about making somebody like Joe--the artist, the primary artist--or whoever, or making the song. It's surrendering personality and surrendering to the principle of the music. And whatever serves the music is most important. It's primary. But to get back to the engine room, you know, we work in the engine room so the artists can be on deck sunning themselves (grins).
Very well put, indeed.
