Mike Dean (COC content)

I've had "Pearls Before Swine" and "Stonebreakers" on rotation for the last 2 hours - both are two of the sweetest bass lines I've ever heard.

IMO, most underrated bassist in hard rock/metal. He plays Sadowsky's...what else can ya say?

Fat tone and super tasteful bassist...plus he can throw downwhen required. I gotto see him with COC live years ago. I believehe was (and still is) running a Mesa Bass 400+ w/a 4x10 and 2x15 cab.

I love Mike's playing in COC. Definitely one of my favorite bands all around as well.

The touring rhythm section are both killer. I have done many shows with the drummer who did some of the last few tours. He and Mike together are unreal.

His singing is also pretty cool, though I prefer COC after Pepper took over vocals.

Nice save Holy War!!!! I clicked on this like hell yeah! Another Mike Dean thread! Not realizing it was my own from two years ago LOL.

He's been jamming with Reed Mullin (drummer from Deliverance, Wiseblood, and I think Volume Dealer) and guitarist Jason Browning in a band called Righteous Fool - www.myspace.com/righteousfoolmusic - it's a good listen. Kind of reminds me of the Atomic Bitchwax.

Here's another bump! It's nice to see a thread for Mike Dean. COC are certainly one of my favourite bands.

I believe he plays a Sadowsky bass (obvious from pictures) mostly tuned DGCF but several songs are in Drop D format (CGCF) such as 'Broken Man', 'Senor Limpio' 'King Of The Rotten' and 'In The Arms Of God'. I read that he used a Fender bass to record 'It Is That Way' which is tuned to B (standard or Drop D setting I don't know....)

Anyway, here's to Mike Dean!

Great player, great band, great songs.

I like his solo on Clean my wounds off the live CD. My favorite line of his was always Long Whip Big America and Dirty Hands and Empty Pockets.

I will say I thought the drumming on In the Arms of God fit his playing better then Reed but Reed is still great. Hes no Stanton Moore though.
