Mike Dirnt: What do you think of him now?

Sign in to disble this ad
Personally, I love pre-Warning Dirnt, back when he wrote some cool stuff.

I can hardly stand playing his lines on American Idiot, they sound so much like anything else.

His basslines on stuff like Welcome to Paradise (Which is inevitably going to be mentioned), When I Come Around, Longview, stuff like that is what made me love him.

But, I want to know what other people thing.

P.S.: I want his Grabber. Even if it is screwed up.

Haha.

I think as far as songwriting goes, Nimrod was Green Day's climax. But as for basslines, Dookie was best.

I think he's just as average and utterly unremarkable as ever.

FTR, it was a G3, and so do i

his sound on dookie, as well as kenny vasoli's (the starting line) tone on based on a true story made me want a g3. on top of that, they look incredible.

id just have to make it custom because i cant do 4 strings.

He was showing a fan how to do his spin thing, where he swings it behind his back, and when he did the neck snapped in two.

The G-3 Had Bill Lawerence PU's if I'm not mistaken. They feel wierd to me, top heavy and thin wide body.

I've always heard it reffered to as a Grabber. Is the pickups the only difference?

I think he is the premier pick user and one of the few i listen to since I a finger man. He has great tone and I love the way he used to play bass fills. The band has changed their sound and the songs aren't written to spotlight his talents as much anymore. Newer GD has too much going on with layered background singing and lots of strings, older GD put the bass out more in front in their recordings also

That's cause Green Day was a three-piece then.

Dirnt do do background vocals, too.

But even though I dislike new Green Day, I still have to be proud to say I'm from the same state as Jason White.

Insomniac was the climax of his lines, I thought.
Can barely hear him on American Idiot. I really wish the last two albums hadn't happened.

grabber has the sliding pickup, g3 has 3 singles, and the ripper has 2 big fat dudes that arent quite singles.

ed from thrice uses a grabber, and his tones are pretty bitchin. but im sure thats slick recording doing a lot of the work. his tone live is just loud

and as of late, very processed.
