Mike Gordon fans?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everybody!
I've been watching the Phish IT DVD today, and I'm awaiting the arrival of my Clifford Ball DVD. Love that Modulus with a pick into Eden sound that Mike gets. Any other fans of this underrated player out there?

anyone going to hampton this weekend? i'm not... since hiatus, i now have taken on "responsibilities." that said, i heard they will be releasing the shows as free downloads. i'm psyched!

as for the thread, Mike is the man! i am a big fan of Phish and i enjoy his stuff w/ leo, but, for what it's worth, i was floored by his playing w/ the GRaB Trio (benevento/russo duo).

as for rising low, i am mixed. almost everything about it was great, but the Joey Arkenstat thing was week. the dug the essence of bass, loved the tribute to Allen Woody, and really dug the music... the Joey thing kind of detracted from everything else. i get the joke, but it was not the coolest thing to have in a partial tribute film.

I'm also a huge Mike fan and I think he's been a big influence on my playing and use of effects. Sometimes I have to be in the mood for his solo CD's, but I'm always up for some Phish. I've all ready pre-ordered my free Hampton shows.

i love his playing but i don't love his tone. too modern and thin for me.

but man the cat's got chops. and really knows how to use effects in a cool manner.

Not at all. Especially after his "child endangerment" arrest.

I do enjoy Gordos' playing as for him as a person well that gets a little iffy. But i got the Clifford Ball dvd from Best Buy yesterday for $50 and i have been glued to it since. Oh and I will be in Hampton tomorrow for the show although i am ticketless atm but i like 15 min away so no biggie if i get shut out. Wish me luck!

DLing Rising Low right now =). The earlier Phish stuff had spectacular bass work and Outside Out with Kottke was sweet too.

Case was dropped. I am pretty sure that had he done anything questionable with that girl, the Hell's Angels would have had him dumped into the ocean.

Anyway, you can d/l the shows and get the info from www.phish.com for the Hampton stuff.

Mike Gordon is an amazing player, IMO. One of my major influences in a number of different areas, from tone and effects to just general playing style and ability.

Are you talking about the time the Hell's Angels beat him up backstage at a Dead show? Wasn't that case thrown out of court and all charges dropped? I hate to say it, but the Hell's angels are not known for being sober and some would even go so say that they are not rational people... even going as far as attempting to use a boat to assinate to Mick Jagger. (On the other the hand, some people like myself don't agree with this assessment and have no issues with the Hell's Angels and feel they are generally pretty good people, who would never do anything wrong.) But at any rate.... If Mike was really guilty of anything, do you think the court case would have been thrown out and that he wouldn't be a wanted man by the Hell's Angels?

On a different note... some of my favorite non-Phish Gordo stuff is from the Super Jam in 2003 or 2004 at Bonnaroo with Dr. John and Stanton Moore. They did some crazy funky stuff on there. Mike takes a lot of solos.

I def. have to say this year has to be the best i've heard out of Mike's rig. I remember being really disappointed when he made the switch from SWR. Just sounded like something was missing. Obviously some of it was the house mix but there was a distinct tonal change.

I actually got to meet him a few times. He's really quirky but a real nice guy. Not sure if he's still cruising the lots but he used to a lot.

As far as the kid thing he's big into film and photography. He was doing some kind of project. I think that was the extent of it.

Anyways enjoying the shows but man do they sound rehearsed...really rehearsed.
