Mike Rutherford on "Lamb Lies Down on Broardway"

I haven't listened to any Genesis in a long time (it seems rather dated) but a few nights ago I put on "Lamb Lies Down..."

Holy cow, I had forgotten what a great sound Mike Rutherford gets on the title track - - Huge and distorted but rather than noisy it's horn-like...

I read, on his wiki page, that he played Ricks and "Shergolds" back then - the bass *does* sound like a rick but the distortion has me wondering - what did he use to get that sound?

Anyone have a clue?

An unabashed fawning cloying desire to be Chris Squire.

That sound is a Micro-Frets 6 string bass with distortion.
