Mike Rutherford's setup on Selling England by the Pound

I'm pretty sure he played a Rickenbacker bass on this album. Does anyone know what kind of amps he was using during this period? This is one of my favorite Genesis albums and probably, IMO, the best tone Rutherford ever got on an album.

I think he was using a Shergold bass/guitar double neck by Trick of the Tail. I may be wrong....

Yeah Lamb Lies Down has some great bass lines too, but there's a nice warmth to the stuff on Selling England by the Pound, especially Cinema Show.

You guys ever see The Musical Box? They're playing here this weekend.

I've seen them on telly on the recent Prog Rock BBC documentaries. they reproduce all the early Genesis shows to the letter - including all the instruments (Rick double necks, etc) and the props and costumes.

Worth a ticket.

I've seen them twice in Atlanta. It's almost a step back into time. They even get the banter down as accurately as possible.

If you like Genesis you should definitely go.

Bass Player needs to do a major article on Rutherford. They had Squire last month!

P.S. If you can get Rutherford's "Smallcreep's Day" pick it up. It is to Genesis what Squire's "Fish Out Of Water" was to Yes. Basically it's an additional Genesis album. It's great!

I've seen them quite a few times. They're definitely worth the price of a ticket if you're a fan of old Genesis.

You'll also get to see how major Mike Rutherford's contributions were to their live sound - bass, 6-string, vocals, and bass pedals, and most of the time more than one at a time. He was a busy guy back then!

I saw Genesis on their first US tour and I don't remember seeing any amps on stage. They had scrim, so maybe some amps were behind that, but I was under the impression they were just playing through the system.

The thing I remember most about MR is that he had very long fingers...he was doing what for me would be very tough stretches and made it look like nothing.

Oh I've seen them. Just wondering if anyone else has.
