A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of seeing Mike Watt play at a small club near my apartment.

Just thought I'd share some of the photos I took at the gig:

Also, worth noting that the Stooges may be playing again, this time with Raw Power guitarist James Williamson.

I highly recommend going to see Watt play. He's great.

I had the pleasure of see him while D. Boone was still alive, he was amazing back then, such a tragedy about those boys, they were the most talented punk band ever IMO (and the last).

Saw Watt on the recent tour as well... What an awesome night. Got to shake the man's hand, and even got a photo with him. What an honest, genuine dude.

That's awesome. I wish I could've done the same - love The Minutemen. Actually - I love just about everything that Watt's been involved in. Only stuff I haven't really heard is Dos, with Kira. Lately I've been listening to "Contemplating The Engine Room" a lot. Such a great album.

I was just lucky enough to be awarded a bass scholarship at McNally Smith in Mike Watt's name. Total honor. I hope I get to meet him someday

Great minds think alike, I saw him in Chicago and started a thread--a couple other folks checked in.
Mike Watt and the Missingmen on tour
The show was amazing, the band was so tight. I can't wait to hear the next album (which they'd recorded a few days before), it should be a barn-burner!

Great pics. I didn't know TT's was still going! I played there in 1987 (!) with Moe Tucker from the Velvets. The opening act was the Pixies--this was before they'd put out anything.

Same here, and I agree. I saw them in a tiny club in Miami just before Double Nickels came out, and a year later opening for REM (D. passed away a month later). They were so damn great.

Wow! I'd heard about the establishment of that scholarship. Congratulations, that's fantastic! You'll meet him, I'm sure. He's one of the coolest people on the planet.

Great pics! I used to live in the Boston area dn did manage to hit TT's once ina great while.

I too saw Mike with The Minutemen back in the day and he was amazing, still is!

If you haven't seen it yet, I'd HIGHLY recommend the DVD called We Jam Econo

Figured this needs a bump.

Take your basses to shows with you, he'll totally sign them with a paint pen. Got him to sign two of mine, one on Secondman's Middle, and one on Hyphenated-Man.

I spent a lot of time by myself and Contemplating the Engine Room, which resulted in poor grades and awesome bass playing. I think it was the first record I learned completely by ear, which I can now concede as a feat, since it took a little bit to figure out that the whole thing is a song cycle in D, with a dropped D tuning. That private accomplishment fills me with more pride than anything I've ever been paid for. And I was 19, and that was the day I stopped sucking so much. I still sucked, just not as much.

i had the great fortune to see fIREHOSE twice on the Flannel tour ... twice in a week, a block apart. at the second show, Watt was just wandering the crowd during the opening set, actually got to chat with him for about 20 minutes.

Curse you lucky West Coasters! *shakes fist*

I read where Watt plans to tour again with the Missingmen this fall. If he makes it to Chicago, I plan to have him sign my keeper-of-keepers Glaub I got in December.
