| | | | Well, if I'm going to be in a club I may as well be in just this one... can't get much more minimalist than that.
Fender '62 reissue jazz fretless -> Eden 2x10 combo. That is all. |

Two P-clones that cost under $250 together, and nothing but a headphone amp that barely works.
I could fill a small warehouse with the gear I used to own, but now I'm freakin' ampless here!

Somewhat minimalist.

When I play with The Lorax (http://www.loraxband.com) all I bring is my Schecter 4-string Jazz Bass clone and a cable...90% of the gigs we do have a backline amp provided that's perfectly suitable for the meat&potatoes rock'n'roll we play, so bringing any more gear to a gig would be a waste.
When I play with Debris (http:///debris.rednotebook.org) I bring the whole kitchen sink: Modulus 6-string, fretless bass, usually an 8-string also, a half dozen stomp boxes, two loopers, and a rack with compression & multieffects. It's what's required to do justice to the material. |

I'm tempted to get a fretless neck for it though. |

-robert | Also, for a minimalist bass it has one too many strings Quote:

I'm tempted to get a fretless neck for it though. | So the one knob is tone, not volume? Cool. I can't live without a volume since I like to turn down between sets (and sometimes between songs).
So to get back on topic..... I quite often am minimalist, just a Fender P to iAMP 500C (usually with an extension cab). But more and more, especially on paid gigs, I am using my X2 wireless.
While I like minimalism, I also like the freedom of the wireless. I do use a 20' cord from the RX to the amp so that if the wireless goes bad (which it never has) I can quickly plug in. |

i've got a very simple Squier II P-Bass. built like a tank. run this into a '73 Kustom head/cab. this goes pretty far, as far as tone and dynamics.
add to that my Epi Viola bass, which is pretty basic. and my SX Jazz (can't open until Christmas, but i'm sure it will be great). i always thought that the mark of a truly good musician was someone who can make a POS sing like a Stradivarius. i'm not in that league, of course. but it's what i aspire to in how i play and the gear i buy. |
