modern bassists with flatwounds

Sign in to disble this ad
so i've recently started putting flatwound strings on my basses and loving the sounds i can get. my brother on the other hand says that they're not good for anything but a jazz band these days.

so what i'm interested to know is what bands out there today have bassists who string their basses with flats? i'm pretty sure flea said that their most recent album was recorded with flats but i'm not sure.

Steve Lawson is among the few solo bass performers that use flatwounds.

In terms of groups, Lenny Kravitz and/or whoever plays bass for him live use flatwounds, as does the bassist from the Australian band Jet.

The flea thing kinda puzzles me-- it seems like the ancient-jazz-with-flats thing came and went in an eyeblink, but the BP article mentioned a 'six-year love affair" with the thing....
