A Modest Proposal

I have found the recent spate of bassist bashing threads to be both entertaining and informative. In that spirit, I would like to propose that Talkbass establish a "Bassist Bashing Bot."

The Bot should operate in the following way: Whenever a TB member posts a message that mentions a given bassist, the Bot would search the TB archives for a bashing thread concerning the bassist. If no such thread exists, the Bot would establish one and post a link to the original thread. If a bashing thread already exists, the Bot would bump the thread to the top of this forum.

Yes, of course I am serious. I have always found that a lot of mindless negative comments will enhance the discussion of any subject.

Yeah, I'm really not going to waste my time or effort to create a Bot for that, but you are free to put that in the suggestion box to see if Paul would be interested in creating one.

I think it would also be nice if we could have a "Bass Manufacturer Bashing Bot". It would make it so much easier to locate others who hate Rickenbacker, Fender, Music Man, Lakland, etc etc, because sometimes you want to band together with other people and hate on things without spending all day doing a search. If it takes too long, the hate dissipates and then it's no fun at all.

i think you are getting at what the real "A Modest Proposal" is getting at in a way. (the original by Jonathan Swift where he suggests the poor eat their own children or something along those lines. i have not read it in years.) I think the OP is trying to be ironic, sarcastic and satirical just like Swift. Perhaps the OP is trying to say that bashing specific bassists is pointless, not a solution to any problem, and doesn't really get anybody anywhere. Or i could have greatly over thought that and thats not what the OP is going for at all.

Egads! Swift *never* suggested the poor eat their own children, that's a truly horrible and reprehensible suggestion! He suggested they sell them to the wealthy, to be eaten by the wealthy.

Sorry, Mr. Mark, but I must ask you and Mr. Host to remain on topic. As this is the "Bassists" forum, it would hardly be the forum in which to bash manufacturers or specific brands of basses. But perhaps we could broaden the scope of my proposal to include the bashing of those who choose to play specific brands of instruments, e.g. Warwick.

To stay on topic in the "Bassists" sub-forum I'm thinking it could be appropriate and acceptable for (Supporting Members only) to post links to cell phone video footage taken of bassists being bashed by other bassists (Supporting Members only, of course) while playing those specific brands of instruments.

I think I would prefer a "Bassists Bashing Other Bassists Bashing Bot." In essence, when ever someone posts a thread/post, the bot would run a scan to determine whether the purpose of the thread/post was solely to bash another bassist. If so, the bot would then pop out of the screen and bash the poster in the face.
