People tend to list "big name" bassists when they discuss their influences. Well here are some of the bassists who influenced me growing up here in Montreal. Thanks for the inspiration and music over the years!

Rhonda Smith - with Kat Dyson (and later Prince)
Andre Whiteman - Jab Jab, Lorraine Klaasen
Orson Clarke - The Aliens
Maurice Soso - various
Shian Ramjohn - Shane Murphy Trio
Al Baculis - various
Peter Santiago - Public Enema, Bullfrog
Peter Dowse - various

Who are yours?

Are you looking for Montreal bassists or our own local bassists or bassists who are not well known and recorded, or what?

Your post is from yesterday. Do you still care today?

I just figured this would be a nice opportunity to acknowledge some bassists who would typically go unacknowledged. But yes, I suppose it would be strange to have you list a bunch of bassists who were never Montreal based under the heading of "Montreal bassists".

Check out Patrik Garon-Sayegh from their old "Metrik" bass and drums duo project with my drum buddy Merlin Ettore. Killer stuff!

I learned the bass by listening to Alain Caron in his Uzeb days... 20-something years ago

IMHO, Jean-François Lemieux is one of the town's top bassplayer. Incredible groove and sound. And very versatile.
