More Tommy Sims

I picked up Israel Houghton's Love God. Love People. The London Sessions over the weekend. Tommy Sims is back again as a co-producer and bassist. I really love Sims' approach to gospel. He is funky but definitely more pop oriented than the typical urban gospel player.

This CD and Houghton's last, Power of One are easily the best gospel/worship CDs I have heard in the last two years. Frankly, these are some of the best popular music I have heard any genre at all over tha last two years.

I may buy those Israel Houghton albums if you would reccommend them? And are there any other gospel CDs that you'd reccomend for the bass playing? I know about Tye Tribbett but I'm struggling to find other stuff that isn't the old school, motown-esque gospel.

Dave Bass....try some of the live stuff from Fred Hammond. Or studio stuff for that matter. Pages of Life Chapter 1 & 2 have some superb playing on them.

Great album.

Tommy was amazing on the White Heart Freedom album ... the bass intro to the song "Let It Go" gives me chills....... If your not familiar with that album it's more of a rock album even slightly leaning towards a Peter Gabriel sound at times.

Thanks to all. I don't understand why is gospel so hard to find in shops! It's one of the finest most positive forms of music and yet it's really hard to come by unless you go to specialist places. Oh well that's where the Internet comes in handy.. Cheers.

If you are in America, go to a Wal-Mart. They stock a lot of gospel. That's where I got the new Israel Haughton for under $12 too.

Tommy Sims also did some excellent playing on Charlie Peacocks "The Secret of Time" and "Love Life". If your unfamiliar with Peacock he is an exceptional song writer who did some of the best music recorded in the late 80's Christian or otherwise. He always has great bass players, his last CD had James Genius.

Tommy himself is a great songwriter. He wrote Clapton's hit "change your world" when he was 16.

Thanks again for the suggestions. Only joined TB yesterday but already I can see this forum is gonna help me out a lot.

Dr Cheese, I'm in the UK but ordering stuff online isn't a problem. There just generally isn't a massive commercial gospel following over here. Although that's probably how it's managed to keep it's authenticity, and hasn't 'sold out', as the saying goes, so maybe it's not a bad thing..
