Most atmospheric or ambient bassline/solo you've heard from a bass player?

Ok so we've had slappers/shredders etc

But whats the most ambient bass line or solo you've heard a bass player do? Or better yet who is your favourite bass player of this style?

For me it has to be Taiji Sawada's tap solo from X Japans Rose and Blood Tour 89-90

And Jason Newsted's Cunning Stunts bass solo, just you can really feel the music and it makes me star into space.

"Grace" by Gordian Knot is by far my favorite bass piece.

This isn't actually Sean Malone, but this guy does a very respectable cover of it.

Ambient bass? Go to the 'ask a pro' forums and check out Steve Lawson's albums. His stuff is full of ambient solo bass.

btw, free downloads courtesy of Steve himself

Mick Karn on the tune "Artemis" from the Dali's Car album. Total outer space nebulous plasma gas.

More Mick Karn

"Sons of Pioneers" from Japan's Tin Drum is one of the most original and utterly freaky parts (by "normal" standards of bass playing) ever recorded. This from a guy who by his own admission couldn't read music or even tablature. Shredding is one thing. Great bass playing is often quite another thing. Try and copy a Karn part - I dare you.

Seemann by Rammstein has a pretty relaxing bassline throughout most of the song (the guitars are another thing altogether though :/ ).

My Faves today would be considered old school......

McCartney......"Rain" and "Paperback Writer" ect

Jack Casady......."Water Song"

Jaco......."Continuum" solo "Refuge of the Roads" w/Joni Mitchell

Eberhard Weber, Miroslav Vitous (Space Echo!) Alphonso Johnson fretless in the '70's

Stanley Clarke "Silver Blue"

I think an album of James Jamerson's best Motown tracks soloed would really sound huge

I really want to listen to Mick Karn, just haven't got to it yet
