Most Promoted Bass Player Today

Sign in to disble this ad
Im talking about endorsements, books, videos, and cds featuring a particular bass player.

My vote would go to Victor Wooten.

He has several endorsements, a book, several videos, several solo cds.

You're probably right-he has a great manager, Danette Albetta, who used to work for Fodera and also assists Steve Bailey and Anthony Jackson in their careers.

I'd say Marcus Miller might be over Vic in this game. Marcus is a solo artist and a very busy sideman/session guy, has a signature bass, signature strings, and a signiture amp... etc etc etc.

I think Marcus Miller has one of those more memorable names... but Wooten's definitely got a lot more notoriety... not to say that has anything to do with ability, just marketing.

right. I am just talking about marketing. I think Marcus is another good example. Does he have a video out? I also know that Wooten endorses Hartke amps as well as his sig bass and Fodera strings.

What's Marcus best work on an album thats not one of his solo albums and not SMV?

I think Lee Sklar and Chuck Rainey have managed to chalk up many endorsements over the years.

Flea. I honestly think I see him the most in all forms of media and he's always recording with other artists.

I think I got Wooten, Marcus Miller and then Flea as the top 3.

C'mon nobody knows (or cares) who flea is outside of the bassist/drummer community. Could we please stop this nonsense with flea? It's drooling all over threads in this place.

Come to think of it, I'd say Paul McCartney is still the most well known bassist... and even people who don't know his name, know his bass

A while back I started a thread where I argued that Randy Jackson is the most successful bassist in the music business if you consider his success in so many aspects of music.

Well, if we're allowed to consider music income other than form playing bass, McCartney is up on Randy by over 1 billion dollars. That was a b.

Not in terms of endorsements, but from reading talkbass I'd say that the most heavily promoted bass player is James Jamerson. He apparently played on every record ever made, invented everything to do with the bass and taught the Jackson 5 how to dance.

You're right.. his "bombed out" project records sell more than most bands.

It's amazing when you read the fine print of how many things he licenses (strings etc).. he has stuff outside of just bass gear.

He does a fantastic job of riding cool laid back and in the spotlight.
