most recorded bassist

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi Folks --

First of all, apologies if this has already been answered somewhere, but I did try to search for this info to no avail. What I'd like to find out is which bassists are represented on the most recordings. Even nicer would be a breakdown by achievements like most appearances on the top ten, etc. Nicer still would be a list for each artist.

My suspicion is that Jamerson, Dunn and Kaye will be in the top five, but I have no cites. I guess that's what I'm looking for.

Thanx in advance,
Bazzy

p.s. What I'm NOT looking for is to reopen the whole Jamerson/Kaye can of worms. nuff said.

Bass Player did a profile on a guy a few months ago that had 600 song credits to his name.
If I can find the issue Ill post it. Also try allmusic.com, they might ave what your looking for.

My guess is that Chuck Rainey will be fairly high up there. Probably more than Jamerson, just because of longevity.

I know Tony Levin does alot of stuff. I've heard him on cd's by Sarah McLachlan, Peter Gabriel, Liquid Tension Experiment, Jennifer Knapp, not to mention his old band King Crimson. The man's been around and is a pretty well known "go to guy" for bass.

Well, if you want to include live recordings, it's got to be Phil Lesh. Nobody else is even close.

Ron Carter should be up there. I read on wikipedia that he's done over 3,500 sessions.

Hmmmm.... Will Lee does a recording every weekday, at least. He's my "working bassist" hero.

He was also on John Lennon's later releases. I think it was here that someone revealed that it was Levin on Don McClean's "American Pie"

I believe it belongs to elvis presley's bassist. After his time with the king he began a successfull studio career in nashville which continues today.

Haha, this is just what I was going to say. Mike Gordon is up there too, I'm sure.

It'd be hard to find accurtate numbers, but my money would be on Lee Sklar.
