most technically advanced bassist?

Out of everything you've heard who do you think is the most technically advanced bassist? It will help a lot if you provide a music file or a video of this bassist at their peak.

Alex Webster

I vote for the guy from cannibal corpse, Alex Webster. Years and years worth of video to check him out.

I don`t think there`s a "most technical" one since there are a lot of different techniques, and it`s always hard to compare musicians.

Anyway, my votes go for (in no particular order):
- Anthony Jackson
- Victor Wooten
- Michael Manring
- Jeff Berlin
- Adam Nitti

he's a solid death metal bassist, but I don't think he's going to be giving Wooten/Manring/Hamm any sleepless nights.

I would add Matt Garrison, Gary Willis and Alain Caron to that list.

Oh, I wouldn't count Wooten out! He picks stuff up pretty easily and if he was challenged I'd see him passing with flying colors, IMHO!

I gotta put a plug in for John Patitucci! Anybody who can match lightning fast arpeggios, CLEANLY, with Chick Corea gets my vote!

The only thing I would give that is points for stamina. IMO nothing musical just a few riffs repeated over and over. The technique wise nothing just a fast riff. Wooten, Garrison, Richard Bona, Manring, and others are doing innovative things. Even for loud rock I would say Flea and Claypool are doing more than the guys in that video.

The bassists that immediately come to mind for me are:
» Victor Wooten: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...&q=bass+wooten
» John Patitucci: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLkPT...ss%20patitucci
» Matthew Garrison: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/garrison
» Dominic DiPiazza: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...5435132&q=bass

I dunno, I would say it's got stamina/speed/dexterity/accuracy and precision, but I am biased towards that style of music. He may not be doing harmonics, or thumb slap but it's still pretty technical.

Probably oughtta throw Berlin in there, but I don't particularly care for his music or his attitude. East is my fave.

Prince?

I've seen some old Prince (believe it or not) videos of live material in the 80's and he is very underrated. He pops and slaps with the best of them over WILD time signatures and chord voicings while dancing and singing! Great showman and great bassist.
