Most Uncredited bassist of all time

Sign in to disble this ad
Unfortunately some bassists never really recieve credit for incredible bass lines they put into songs and the lead guitarist or singer is always center stage when it comes to songs. My case in point would be Boston bassist Fran Sheehan. Songs like Feelin Satisfied really shock me when i listen how intricate the bass lines are! I tried to learn it and it just completely kicked my butt! well i also heard that Tom Sholtz possibly recorded the song but my point is who else is an uncredited bass player???

I would say Bill Babbit for the uncredited work on the Kiss albums and countless others.
And yes I heard the same thing about Fran, That Tom was unsatisfied with the Bass lines and re-recorded the whole thing himself, Which is why there was such a gap between Boston Albums.

I've always really liked the stuff Mario Cippolina played on the big hit albums from Huey Lewis and the News. Nice sound, great note choices, excellent feel, and flawless time.

John Taylor (Duran Duran), in the 80's he was popular for other reasons except being a great modern bass player

He has to be up there, I read the interview where he talks about the first Talking Heads album, that really got me thinking.

Are you talking about BOB Babbitt?
If so here is a quote he wrote on "discuss detroit" message boards in 2002,
"GENE SIMMONS........BASS PLAYER MAGAZINE DID AN INTERVIEW ON HIM AND IT WAS ONE OF THE WORST PIECES OF TRASH I EVER READ.........FOR HIM IT WAS ALL ABOUT THE SEX, DRUGS, ROCK & ROLL SYNDROME AND HIS SPOILED RICH KID ATTITUDE READ THRU THE COMMENTS HE WAS MAKING ABOUT THE MUSIC BUSINESS,
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT HE SAID I DID AGREE WITH HIM BUT WHEN HE MENTIONED THAT THE MOTOWN BASS SOUND WAS NOTHING BUT A MUDDY NON- DESCRIBABLE SOUND WITH NO DEFINITION........AND THAT PLAYING WITH A PICK WHERE EVERY NOTE WAS CLEAR AS A BELL WAS HIS ANSWER TO HIS BASS SOUND....
WELL....I GOT PISSED OFF!!!!!!!!! I RESPONDED TO HIS ARTICLE AND BASS PLAYER GLADLY PRINTED MY RESPONSE..................I TOLD HIM THAT MOST BASS PLAYERS WHO PLAY WITH A PICK ARE FRUSTRATED GUITAR PLAYERS.........( BY THE WAY CAROL KAYE BUSTED ME ON THAT) AND THAT THE MOTOWN BASS SOUND WOULD “PUNCH AND HIT YOU RIGHT IN THE FACE”............THAT AS FAR AS THE KISS GROUP WAS CONCERNED THAT I KNEW FROM THE RUMORS IN NEW YORK AMONG THE MUSICIANS AND SOUND ENGINEERS THAT “GHOST MUSICIANS” WERE BEING USED ON THEIR RECORDS...
FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DOD NOT KNOW WHAT A “GHOST MUSICIAN “ IS...........
A MUSICIAN WHO IS BROUGHT IN TO RECORD AND IS NOT GIVEN CREDIT, INSTEAD THE GROUP MEMBER GETS THE CREDIT.........ALSO THAT WHEN YOU GENE DID YOUR SOLO ALBUM I WAS CALLED TO PLAY ON IT AND FORTUNATELY I WAS BUSY WITH ANOTHER ARTIST AND COULD NOT DO YOUR ALBUM..
AND THEN I CONCLUDED BY SAYING THAT I HAD NOT BEEN WRESTLING IN YEARS BUT IF I RAN INTO YOU I WOULD GIVE YOU A PILE DRIVER................
BASS PLAYER REACTIONS TO MY RESPONSE WAS THAT THEY STOOD UP AND CLAPPED WHEN THEY SAW ME AND CHEERED ON THE PHONE OR ON MY ANSWERING MACHINE!!"

Honestly Who cares? There are million people that make a difference in this world and they never recieve credit... just live your life, do your best and be happy.

Not offense but if you dream to be the next axl rose then bass is not for you.

Credit will come later , but is reserved for people like James Jamerson, Jaco, Cliff Burton , etc. Do you see a common thing in them? I do, they did not gave a **** what world thought about them.

Rex Brown of Pantera/Down has some excellent basslines, one of the best metal bassists out there.
