Maybe I missed it, but didn't Tom Scholz play bass on that first Boston record?

Just asking.

I've heard that someone ghosted the bass on early Aerosmith records.

But I don't know it it's true.

Hunter and Wagner did a lot of the guitar work...

Well, there's actually six:
Geddy Lee, Flea, Stanley Clarke, JP Jones, Jack Bruce and Jaco Pastorius. Those guys are even better that everybody thinks and the amount of press/credit devoted to anyone else should be taken away and diverted to them. Only those six players should get any credit. They're really that good.

No, I'm not kidding. They're the best so flush the rest.
Although that one dude has a point about Rex Brown ... hmmm ... OK, those six plus Rex, nobody else, they all suck and that's final.

Yup ... Stanley Sheldon is so unrespected he doesn't even get credit in this thread !!!

Check him out on some of the Tommy Bolin recordings - was a guitar player before I first heard him on these albums waaaay back when.

+1 to Rex and +1 especially to Eddie Jackson. I love Queensryche. Always have. Course they will always be dismissed because of "silent lucidity", but oh well. He is a hell of a bass player.

I don't see Pino Palladino or Tony Levin on this list. Both of them have played on a million tracks we all know and love but perhaps never knew it was them. John Paul Jones?

+1 to Tony Levin. One of my absolute most favorite bass players ever, Pino is maybe tied with him.

I think Mike Mills from REM doesn't get nearly enough credit. He writes, sings lead and backup, and plays his PBass with style. His melodic parts are often the most important thing going on in the songs, especially the earlier, and my favorite, records. Check out "Reckoning" Almost every tune features a subtle, and really cool interweaving of bass and guitar.
Kinda dorky looking, but a great musician! I think of his playing to this day, when i work with an ALT rock group. I am also kinda dorky, so that is another bond.

I go with Bill Black. I know he was a double bass player, but his stuff with Elvis is alot of fun to listen to. Consider some of these:

-That’s All Right Mama
- Blue Moon of Kentucky
- Heartbreak Hotel
- Jailhouse Rock
- Don’t Be Cruel
- Good Rockin’ Tonight
- Blue Suede Shoes
- Hound Dog
- All Shook Up
- Wear My Ring Around Your Neck

I think that is some good stuff.

Glad to see someone giving it up for Mike Mills!
