Hey guys, just want to know your opinons of who the most underrated bassist out there is. Sorry if there is already a thread like this.

In my opinion, its Tom Hamilton (Aerosmith), John Deacon (Queen) and Dave Meros (Spock's Beard)

Norm Stockton would be at the top of my list. He's incredibly gifted, knows when to stay simple vs. doing his complex grooves. So few (including the bass community) know him because he's not into mainstream music. I've got all of his instructional videos, and IMO they are second to none.

Peter Cetera of Chicago. From the jazz-influenced stuff to the pure pop to the experimental/angry-rock stuff, he was right there, singing while he did it. And great tone.

Matt Garrison gets far too little exposure for how great he is, there are tons of videos on youtube of him at NAMM now though which is cool.

have to agree w/ Tom Hamilton as far as rockers go. Very inventive and musical!

Maybe Bill Laswell, though maybe people know him by now?

My vote goes to Carlos D of Interpol. He isn't really much of a blip on the bass playing world, but his lines are very interesting and infectious to me.

Abraham Laboriel. This guy is incredible, but I never hear much press about him. Groove runs in the family as his son is Macca's drummer.
