Music people would be suprised to hear you like

Looking at me, most people would probably guess I listen to heavy metal, screaming stuff and loud music, which is the complete opposite. I listen to a wide variety of stuff and even stuff people would think is strange to like for a guy. I personally don't believe in guilty pleasures. I happen to enjoy the music of

Michael Jackson
Ayumi Hamasaki
Nobuo Uematsu

What about you guys?

Crap, I swear I had posted this in the recordings section. Sorry about that.

First and foremost, I am a huge metal fan. I listen to a lot of black metal and death metal, and I listen to some thrash. When I tell people I really like classical music they are so surprised because they don't understand how I can like metal and classical. Some people even told me these two types of music are complete polar opposites IMO these people are pretty much just ignorant because they don't realize how many similarities there are between metal and classical. Why wouldn't I listen to classical if it instills the same feeling in me that metal does?

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only person who thinks Nobuo Uemastu is amazing. A lot of people are surprised at what I listen to. The only people who really have similar tastes are other musicians.
Nobuo Uematsu
Clint Mansell (Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain)
Shostakovich
Koji Kondo
Marvin Gaye
Bowie
Mingus
Miles Davis
Mahavishnu Orchestra
Wu Tang Clan
It goes on, but that's a general idea.

Duran Duran.

Only we bass players seem to appreciate John Taylor's bass wizardry.

To people who know me nothing I listen to surprises them. I'll go from rap to metal to classical to 80's alternative to etc etc etc from song to song via the ipod shuffel. I will NOT do country, show tunes, or opera. I do have a fancy for bluegrass music tho.

I absolutely adore Public Enemy. If Public Enemy fans have a look, it isn't mine.

I often go to the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra dressed in jeans and t-shirts featuring metal bands (the Cannibal Corpse t-shirt I wore one time got a LOT of looks).

Well, not be a flamer, but the most combinations I read here aren't that special.
Metalheads I know typically listen to mainstream metal, some major influentual band like Zeppelin and then some anime/video game music combined with possible J-pop.

I apologize if you think I meant this as a bashing, I didn't.

Also, not to hijack this thread, but this would perhaps work better with pics of yourself and possible asking what people here think you listen:P
