Last night my daughter played bass for the Washington Middle school Jazz band. They recieved a 1 for their performance.
It is a B class piece.
Here is a Youtube link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6hfP1mF8jA
She has only been playing for a year and a half and only for Jazz band. She normally plays the Flute and Piccilo for Concert band.

I was uber proud of her.

Most likely much better than *I* was at the same age, but she's having the experience of playing with her school's Jazz Band... and dare I say one of the best parts of her band: even when I was "playing" Clarinet, using the term "playing" extremely loosely, I knew that School Orchestras at that age can be pretty cringe-inducing especially the Horn Sections... doubled if you have Absolute or Relative Pitch. ( ) Comparatively, I believe I was learning Aerosmith's "Pump", Mötley Crüe's "Dr. Feelgood", Winger's S/T debut, and Def Leppard's "Hysteria" (but to give myself a little bit of credit, given that I was entirely self-taught the albums I started out learning were also ones with solid rhythm sections that helped develop my musical "ear" early on an had me working on Rush's back catalog in only a few years. )
...but c'mon Dad, no lending her the Fender Precision Special, Fender Precision Deluxe, or StingRay to help give her an advancement in both the "Quality Gear Equals Technically/Physically Easier to Play and Learn Pieces Of Music" as well as "Cool Gear Equals a Cooler Musician Amongst your Peers"? No helping her out in those areas?!? (...but very nice taste in your Modulus Genesis 4 & 5-strings, I must say ) |

My middle child took up the bass when he was 14 (grade 9) to play in the school jazz band, while he played the tenor sax for the main concert band. Three years and four jazz bands later, he's now an accomplished bassist (no more tenor sax), who in turn inspired me to take up the bass myself at the age of 52!
The only thing I regret is I don't have any video clips to show off like you do!

I let my daughter read them yesterday. I hope she continues and that will be up to her.
Since she is only in the 7th grade, it will be interesting.

She is super excited because I let her take the MIA Fender Hwy 1 Jazz out for the mini-tour. Yes, she is playing 5 shows in 1 day!

Baptism by fire!~
Now, another man's opinion here, but for that you tube song, you MUST show that girl how to properly pluck, so she can really finish that riff! and S-L-I-D-E down that big ol E string coming back in from the rest.
Drummer is good. Key for a bassist.
