Jaco may have been playing a fretless in 69/70 but when it was time for the audition from what Ralphe says in the interview it was he who had a fretless during his audition.

Ralphe Armstrong, one of the greatest groovers to ever pick up the electric Bass(he's an equally incredibly talented upright bassist as well)is doing just fine living in Detroit and still playing regularly.

If you're ever in Detroit stop by the famous Bakers keyboard lounge(on Livernois Ave) and chances are Ralph will be giving a killer performance.

Here's some Ralphe Armstrong.

I would add Adrian Davison (for taking the two hand tapping of bass to a different level) and Zuzo Moussawer (for defining the percussive-harmonic-melodic approach of the bass for me). In fact, I contacted Zuzo few times back in 1996 and bought his cds along; when he got mentioned in bass player, I contacted him for his latest cd and he remembered me!!!!!

It would, if I only could afford the trip...
I'm learning Ponty's Enigmatic Ocean part III at the moment, that's one great groove.

Aaaagreed.

I can't remember if anyone added NHOP (Niels-Henning Orsted Pederson)? I've become a big fan of his lately. Just fantastic work.
