Thumbs up My interview with Screech (He plays bass)

Ok, so it's not really an interview, but I got a chance to talk to Dustin Diamond, who played Screech from Saved By the Bell for ten years. Apparantly he's in the process of starting up a standup career, and he's starting with the college campuses, (starting with mine ) So, being our school's sound and light guy, I got to do sound and light for him and talk to him for a little bit. Apparantly he plays bass for a band whose name I very shamefully can't remember. I got to listen to their unreleased cd for a while, and it's not half bad. It's kind of off-the-wall music, but pretty fun to listen to. Kind of Mr. Bungle. So, anyway, here's a quick paraphrase of what we talked about. (I thought of all my TalkBass buddies, and decided to Talk Bass with him... ar ar ar...)

Me: So, what kind of bass do you play?
Dustin: Well, I have about ( ) nine basses, fretless, fretted, five and six... I even have a twelve string.
Me: What's your main bass?
Dustin: Mostly I use a MusicMan 5.

That's about it. I hope this was entertaining as well as educational.

The amazing thing about this guy is that after so many years, he still looks exactly the same.

In the last issue of Spin, there was a blurb about Dustin's band. I just checked it, and there wasn't really a name mentioned for the band. It could be "Salty the Pocketknife," but that could just be Dustin's new nickname (although Screech is probably more memorable...and sane).

Man I hated that show so much.

Does anyone know his bands name for sure so I could check them out?

Ditto. Is he just as annoying in person?

I hear he's a cool guy in real life...but he played Screech so well, that he's now having toruble getting acting gigs because people think that he IS Screech...talk about good acting backfiring...

Never let it be said that Talkbass doesn't get the biggest names.
