I know hes a member here, and I just wanted to say a few things in his direction.

Thank you. Honestly, thank you. I caught some of "You Belong with Me" this morning, and was flabbergasted. The bass is sooo tasty, and the tone was immense. I thank you for showing us young cats, up and coming, that bassists can still be funky but get some good radio time.

Ive been to Nashville, and its cut throat. Every place has a band playing, with what seems like a 24 hour routine. You had to have worked your way up.

And for your modesty. I remember the thread devoted to you after you received a Grammy for playing one her album. Modesty isnt something you see too often, and you gave a good dose of it.

Again, just know, stuff like that is what keeps a young cat like me going.

Thats all, I just wanted to get that out there!

Cool thread, Jordan. I've interacted with Tim a bit on the Lakland thread and on the LOG board, and he's a cool dude. Now, working at the level he's on, he may not have had a chance to read this yet.

I'm sure he doesn't! But he does pop in on a semi regular basis, so we will see! Its just good to know that popular music on the radio still has a chance for us bassists.

I have not listened to Taylor Swift much, even though I have a 12 year old daughter who does. iPods make it so I don't hear what she is listening to! She fancies herself a singer, though and has been taking voice lessons. The school she is going to is participating in a school competition and she decided that she wants to compete as a soloist. She chose the song "Forever and Always" by Taylor Swift. First off, it is a textbook piece of what used to be called pop music, very catchy and hooky and some nice dynamics. The bass line really stands out. Very up front and funky and an integral part of the song. My daughter gets upset when I refer to Taylor as a pop artist, she equates that term to Britney Spears types that she abhors, but she doesn't realize that I mean that as an extreme compliment.

So, yeah +1 for Tim Marks!

I just got a reply from Tim, to an e-mail I sent him yesterday. Here it is, if you guys wanna see it. Really cool guy. Thanks Tim!

Hi Eric

Glad you like the record--thanks for the kind words

1. No, I went to college for 2yrs and dropped out. It's not necessary,
but not a bad thing either. Having a couple good private teachers,
playing a lot of gigs, and getting as much experience as you can are good
ways to go and can be done without school.

At the same time, school can provide teachers, fellow students to work
with etc, so it's worth considering.

2. Lakland USA Osborn (jazz bass) on about half of it. Various others on
the rest--Lakland 55-94, Lakland Glaub, Jerry Jones Longhorn...

3 and 4. She has had her live band in place for a long time--all great
players and great people.....I really enjoy making records and working in
the studio, but I like playing live shows too. I'm fortunate to have a
good mix of studio work and live gigs in Nashville. Travel has been
minimal the last few years, but I enjoy it when I do it.

Thanks again
TM

Hey Tim! I've been listening to Taylor Swift's Fearless album, and I've
really been enjoying the bass parts you provide. I've been playing bass
for seven years, and I just have some questions to ask, one bass player to
another.
1) Do you have a music degree? Do you think one is necessary to be
successful in the music industry?

2) What gear did you use on Taylor's Fearless album? I really like the
tone!

3) (This one may seem too personal; answer if you want) Is there any
reason you don't tour with Taylor? I'm just trying to understand the music
industry better, from a bassists point of view.

4) Do you prefer touring or sessions work?

Thanks for taking time to look at my questions
