Anyone else fan? Saw him in Pittsburgh August 14 and appreciated his sound and lines. Plays upright as well as a Lakland JO.

Nate is fantastic. Definitely a bassist with skills, but also one who understands how to serve a song well.

BTW -- his last name is Query -- not Quey. Can't type.

I'm a fan. Solid, tasteful playing, which is more apparent live than on recordings. I saw them two years ago with an orchestra here in downtown Chicago, they were great.

I think these guys are one of the high points of new music this decade. I regret I have only been able to see them live once. It was a small venue show though and great fun.

I saw them when they were touring the Picaresque album about 5 years ago, it was a great show, Bass on most of their stuff isn't very showy, but he plays just what is needed and no more, and he spent a lot of time on the upright which was very cool.

Their music is very quirky, and it took me a while to get into it when I was first given the CD "Her Majesty" by my "hip" younger brother. But once I got into it, I had a hard time putting it down.

Check out July July!

Two of their more "mainstream" releases.

One thing you have to give em, nobody does a better song about how your mom is a prostitute.

I've seen the Decemberists 7 or 8 times here in Portland! They're great; probably my favorite current band. They always put on a fun, high energy show.

I have to admit that I didn't like their new album Hazards of Love until I heard them perform it live. The two female vocalists tore it up!

I've had the chance to talk to Chris Funk (the guitarist) after one of their shows. He's a cool guy. Nate is a fantastic bass player. There was a short interview with him in a recent Bass Player magazine.

I just recently discovered for myself how great of a player Nate Query is. I'm trying to modify my style a bit to see if I can't take a bit of his skill at knowing jsut what to play.

Truly an awesome musician, never once heard him overplay.
