Nathan East / Eric Clapton

I came across this and totally fell in love with this intro! I've not worked much with chordal and arpeggio work on bass, but I'm going to learn it.

Nathan East has been and will always be one of the greats! Chops tempered with taste and maturity. Can't beat that!

P.S. This is the Madison Square Garden concert (don't know what year; fairly recent, I think), and I'm looking for the DVD or CD of this if anyone knows if one exists. Must be something somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. Help!

East, Clapton and Gadd ? well..... this looks like the magic recipe...

"One more car, one more ride" DVD is to check out as well... those guys were really great when I saw them in Madrid for that tour... although I went to the concert hall "late" I was only 3-4 meters away from the front line... one of best concerts of my life....

Looks like the Eric Clapton and Friends benefit concert. If I'm correct, that's readily available at most stores.

I don't have that DVD. I should get it though! I have all the other ones.

I've got that on my ipod, but don't have the DVD, unfortunately. But there's a lot of vids on Youtube if you punch in "One more car one more rider" that are awesome to watch!!! Great concert!

"EC and Friends" has Phil Collins on Drums. I think this is a continuation of the "One More Car" tour with Gadd, or the "Pilgrim" tour, but don't know for sure. STILL can't find it....

That's what I'm trying to find out, too!!!! Great solo cut off! Did you see Clapton's reactions to the solo? He's diggin' it, big time!

I've got a message into the guy on Youtube that posted the vid, but so far no response. He probably doesn't get on too often; only three vids posted over quite a period of time. I'll let you know what I find out.

Rock on!

Nathan East is probably one of the best players out there. I know I'd love his gig. Clapton, Fourplay, studio, touring, jazz, rock, whatever. Great gig, fantastic player with taste. Has chops and knows when NOT to use them.

After some research, I do believe you're absolutely right! There was a "Clapton and Friends" at Madison Square Garden to benefit the Crossroads Centre at Antigua that has Steve Gadd and Nathan East on it in '99.

Sorry; I thought the only "and friends" one was the one with Phil Collins. My mistake!
Haven't been able to view any of it, but looks like the same concert from the outfit that he's wearing on the cover. Thanks for the tip!

I guess I'll just have to break down and get it!

Here's a good Fourplay vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lP9ZRiKxzvI

A supergroup if there ever was one, and their 1st album is one of my all-time faves.

Wow that was great. I have been playing a lot of blues based Eric Clapton songs in one band and thought it would be hell to be the bassist in Eric Clapton's band.

On one hand you get to say you where the bass player for Eric Clapton, on the other hand they don't seem to get to play anything other than very very simple lines. And if I find the line simple........ well........ 'nuff said.

But Eric actually lets Nathan play.

So...I went out and bought the DVD. Eric Clapton & Friends In Concert. It's the one!

The rest of the song is pretty awesome, too! East does some great stuff near the end of the key solo.

Thanks for putting up with me!

I think Nathan is a "GREAT" player.

But, it's just me.
I never dug his playing with Clapton. ( No flames)

Maybe it's his tone. ( to smooth, polite)

He has chops for days.

But I prefer, Carl Radle, Duck Dunn, Willie Weeks, with Eric.
And, Jack Bruce isn't bad either.

Yeah. I love the jumping! Probably had to go to the bathroom by that part of the concert!

I'm on your side. Too smooth, too tasteful if possible. I haven't heard Duck with Eric, but I can't imagine not loving it. The other bassists you mention are fabulous and they have the kind of tone and originality that I crave. Willie is so great with Clapton these days. Carl and Jack are among my favorites as well.

I'm in that club too, I love Nathen East's playing, but he is my least favorite Clapton bassist. I think Willie Weeks adds the grease that Clapton's music needs.
