Nathan East & Fourplay

How many of you bass players out there are frustrated with the token " new kid on the block " type of player who is in the now because of the popularity of the band they are in ?
The thing i have difficulty with, is when Fourplay records multiple albums of maybe some of the most astute compositions possible ...but whenever its being played either in the background/ or foreground , generally the comment is " geez , whats this porn music mate ? ..." I know a lot of it can be cheese by a some peoples standards ,but cant people go beyond the "music " and see technological advancement ?

Nathan East Fan!

I agree!! That's okay though! Nathan East is probably the highest paid sideman bassist (at his highest point probably made a $mil a year) and has ALL the top gigs! Clapton, Phil Collins, Babyface, Fourplay, Anita Baker, Whitney, Michael Jackson just to name a few! And the man can sing! These new jacks don't even come close to Nathan's talents!

In my opinion Fourplay is the worst example of elevator music. Its not Nathan's fault, I really dig his playing. The songs are just... so plain and smoothed out. Like it was made of essence.

Last night I went through my Peter Gabriel collection. Now that is pure musical genius. And Tony Levin rocks!

You can get get the greatest players in the world and put them all in the same band. But a lame song is a lame song no matter how technically proficiant the players are. At least thats IMO

I think Jaco was a brialliant player but I cant stand his many of his songs, they just dont grab me.
