I agree but Yamaha is a funny company. Remember the Patitucci sig? I believe his vs. the production models were different as well, IIRC. (I could be wrong).

The 6 String Bass that he uses with Fourplay is a custom that Yamaha does not plan on offering to the public. Last spring I asked him about it ,after the Fourplay show in Tarrytown N. Y. He told me it is one of a kind. That same show he was using SWR head and cab's. I have seen recent photo's of him playing an older TRB6 with other artists.

The production NE-2 and the "Custom" 6 he uses have the NE-1 Parametric EQ built into the basses. Both basses also have piezo's.

I have a TRBJP 2 and I use the NE-1 EQ, it fattens the sound. The NE-1 Parametric EQ is much like the EQ on the NE-1 Signature 5 .

Pretty much East's sound is (in order of importance) his brain and ears, his fingers, his custom-made EQ, the Avalon DI that's been in his live rig for a L O N G time, his basses, and his strings.

I was going to add that it seems he is never without an Avalon U5. The Yamaha bass is pretty distinctive as well I think.

I'd be willing to bet that the Avalon is what's going to the House mix.

What amazes me is that he seems to be playing with quite low action, yet he does not seem to get any fret buzz. Oddly it looks like he doesn't have a super light touch.Gary Willis plays super light but as a fretless player he's in a completely different bag altogether. I suppose anyone can play without buzz and low action by playing light but then the lines can get pretty lifeless. I'm always struggling with that. How to get the power of the live performance without any noticeable rattling, clicking or buzzing.

There is usually a guitar / bass tech that travels with all artists... I would assume it is adjusted to whatever the climate is. The Yamaha Basses have a satin finish to the necks, this allows more swelling of the necks due to humidity etc.

I did notice on a TC Electronics site, That Nathan is playing a newer bass, looks like a YAMAHA headstock similar to the Myung Sig. bass. I wonder if this is the new design? It was a 6 string.

I don't think many people are going to want a 36" scale bass. 34" is the norm and you certainly want to gear a production bass to the masses. However, you should be able to order a 36".

Nathan's been in the game since he was playing for Barry white at age 16. His sound is still great decades later.

I've been trying to find out his sound for ages now. I even asked him after a four play concert. He told it was the bass. And not the di. You figure he use to use a adl tube box and still got a perfect sound. I read an article we're he uses a some sort of synth bass.
I'm convinced Yamaha has made something special for their artist. Some microchip .........

That would be true of an unfinished neck. But, when the neck is finished, the sheen level of the finish (i.e., satin, semi-gloss, gloss), has nothing to do with moisture absorption.

I think it may just be a customized TRB6-PII

Avalon A5 it the constant in his sound no whether which logo is on his amps. His Yamahas are the other constant except the Washburn ABGs I've seen him playing on videos.
